• WordPress Multi-Site Enabler Plugin Removed by WordPress

This morning I got the following email:

We have closed your plugin – Enable Multi-Site – because it is no longer needed with WordPress 3.4

As it does not support IIS or nginx, it was increasingly causing issues with users. Since the process to upgrade has become as simple as changing three files, it is no longer needed by the majority of users, who should be making these changes anyway, in order to become familiar with the system.

If you should like to upgrade your plugin to work with a larger variety of servers, or code it so that it simply will not run if it detects nginx/iis, please update the code and let us know so we may review you changes before re-opening.

Thank you for all your hard work!

This plugin will be updated within the next 6 months. I have some other priorities to wrap up first.

      Hi Jason,

I was flummoxed this morning when I went to use your great plugin and could not find it in plugin search, what an arrogant message from WordPress. I hope they are not going the same way all these big companies seem to go, when they get too big for their boots..

      Kepp up the good work..!

      cheers,

      Iain

Oy Jason, we’re so disappointed to learn this. I’ve followed the convoluted and difficult instructions to upgrade one of my sites to the multi-site version of WordPress – it’s time consuming and difficult. Hoping you’ll revise the plugin and release it again!

Following WP instructions for creating a multi-site left me with a 301 redirect loop on a network site dashboard. I tried this plugin and it *almost* works. The blog and site url need to be updated within the site’s database. Being able to add sites without db edits is still a problem but I’m grateful for the work that you have put in this plugin.

Update: All is well! I was able to change those settings via the Network Admin » Edit Site. I’m using 3.5 and this plugin still did the trick for me!
